Firstly, bring up your children in the way they should go (God's way) because when they grow, they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). This is God's prescription to you. You need to take this very seriously. Do not take this for granted at all. If you do this right, your children would not depart from God.
7 You shall teach them diligently to your children [impressing God’s precepts on their minds and penetrating their hearts with His truths] and shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.
8 And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand (forearm), and they shall be used as bands (frontals, frontlets) on your forehead.
9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:7-9(AMP)
Secondly, be deliberate and innovative in bringing up your children. The above scriptures shows us practical things that can be done to ensure this. As much as possible, preach the good news to your children at a very early age and get them saved. From then on, come up with ingenious ways to put God's word constantly in their faces. We live in a world where everywhere you turn, there is one sexual pervasion or the other. Pre-marital sex has become the norm and there is a serious pervasion of the marriage institution that is gaining ground. Watch the kind of books they read, the television programs they watch and substitute with godly content. Invest in accessories that have scriptures in them. If you do not have things to buy, be innovative and create one! The soul of your children is key. The devil is trying all he can to snatch them.
Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, That I may not sin against You. - Psalm 119:11(AMP)
12 Let no one look down on [you because of] your youth, but be an example and set a pattern for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in [moral] purity. - 1 Timothy 1:12(AMP)
Thirdly, ensure that your children have God's word in their hearts. Help them in recitals of God's word and explain what it mean to them. Show them to rely on the Holy Spirit for interpretation as well. This means they must be baptised in the Holy Spirit at a very early age. Above all, be a good example of a believer in all you do. Children do not learn solely by instructions, but by example. If you are teaching one thing and doing the other, they would most likely do what you do and not what you say.
In conclusion, as you take care of the children God has put in your care, the wisdom to deal with them God's way would be consistently revealed to you. You would be bringing up children who can stand in the years to come even when the world gets darker.
Have a great week.
