Have you heard of King Solomon, son of David? He is known historically and biblically as the richest man in his time. He was king over Israel after King David died. He was not only the richest man in that era, he was also full of so much knowledge, wisdom and understanding. He was a great king. There is a particular incidence that stands out during his reign. It was how he judged the matter between two women who were arguing over a living baby and a dead baby. You can read the entire story in 1 Kings 3:16-28. However, see how King Solomon settled the matter:
23 Then the king said, “Let’s get the facts straight. Both of you claim the living child is yours, and each says that the dead one belongs to the other.
24 All right, bring me a sword.” So a sword was brought to the king.
25 Then he said, “Cut the living child in two, and give half to one woman and half to the other!” - 1 Kings 3:23-25(NLT)
You can see that his subjects obeyed him without any delay or argument. There were no human rights activist somewhere in the city trying to challenge the ethicalness of his judgment. His word was law! There is yet another story in scriptures that depict the absoluteness of a King's word.
This next story is about King Xerxes, king of Persia (present day Iran). He ruled from India to Ethiopia and had 127 provinces stretching along that area that was under him. He was a king that came years after King Solomon had died. Israel at that time were in captivity under him. His first wife, Queen Vashti disobeyed an order he gave for her to appear before him. He sought counsel from his nobles and this was their response:
19 “So if it please the king, we suggest that you issue a written decree, a law of the Persians and Medes that cannot be revoked. It should order that Queen Vashti be forever banished from the presence of King Xerxes, and that the king should choose another queen more worthy than she.
20 When this decree is published throughout the king’s vast empire, husbands everywhere, whatever their rank, will receive proper respect from their wives!” - Esther 1:19-20(NLT)
As funny as the above may seem to you, that was exactly what King Xerxes did! He made that decree and it became law! A law that would also bind whoever ruled after him. This is how the laws that govern a land/kingdom is established. The king declares it, and it stands. Therefore, if you are a citizen of a kingdom, whatever word that your king declares is law. The question to you today is: What kingdom do you belong to? There are only two available kingdoms - the kingdom of light (God's kingdom) and the kingdom of darkness (the devil's kingdom). 1 Peter 2:9 clearly shows that these two kingdoms exist.
You belong to the kingdom of darkness if you have not accepted, believed in and confessed Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. It means you are being ruled by your flesh and influenced by the devil. No wonder you lack that inner peace and joy. No wonder things seem haphazard for you. If you are in that category, make that commitment to Jesus today. Jesus said that He is the way, the truth and the life; you cannot have access to God except through Him (John 14:6). Turn to Christ today so that you would be a part of God's kingdom.
In the Kingdom of light (God's kingdom), our king is Jesus; the son of God made flesh! He has said so many things, and His word is law! If you have not been reading and studying scriptures, please do because that is where you would get the words and laws that would make you access and enjoy your citizenship as God's child. In the hierarchy of things, God's kingdom is greater and far superior to the kingdom of darkness. The only thing the universe responds to positively is the word from our King! Therefore, if you don't know His word, and you're not aware that His word is law, you have been missing out on a lot of benefits and rights as a citizen.
What are you faced with currently? If you belong to God's kingdom, let it sink that God's word is law! He alone has the final say over creation. Just like the examples given above about the power of a king's word, the power in God's Word is phenomenal! It is greater and higher than any other king in the entire universe. That is why He is referred to as the King of kings, and the Lord of lords. Begin to take God's word more seriously in your everyday life. Believe in the finished works of Christ in that situation. Carry your head up, hold your shoulders high because your king, God Almighty, Jesus Christ, the anointed, has spoken; and His words are law!
Have a blessed week!
