14 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going into another country, who called together his servants and loaned them money to invest for him while he was gone.
15 “He gave $5,000 to one, $2,000 to another, and $1,000 to the last--dividing it in proportion to their abilities—and then left on his trip. Matthew 25:14-15 TLB
While meditating on the parable of the talents some time ago, I came to understand that the master didn’t randomly choose how many talents to give each servant, it was based on their ability. This means that before he gave each one talents, he had taken some time to observe and test them to know their ability. They had been his servants for some time and before he had to assign his goods to them, they had served him. It was in the process of their service to him that he knew each one’s abilities.
I understand that the master knew those servants and gave them according to their ability because he wanted to make profit. No rational thinking individual will close his eyes when making an investment. A rational thinking individual invests more in investments that are most likely to yield much profits while he invests less or none in those that are likely to fail. In Luke 16:10-11, we see Jesus saying that
" Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. If, then, you have not been faithful with worldly wealth, who will entrust you with true riches?"
We can see then that little is first entrusted into the hands of people before much is given. The basis for much is the faithfulness with the little. So, if an individual remains only with little, it must be that that individual is not being faithful with the little. We thus have a role to play in what and how much God chooses to entrust to. Many times, we act as if God randomly chose those who do great things and much in the kingdom, but we forget that God is willing to use us to the level of our availability, and faithfulness. Rather than give excuses as having only one talent why not be faithful with the one, work with it, make profit with it and watch God give you more.
If you notice for instance that you always have not enough money, then it may be a sign that you are not being faithful with the little God has entrusted to you. Perhaps you are not being prudent with the little. For if you are not prudent with little you will not be prudent with much; if you cannot pay your tithe when you have little you wouldn’t pay your tithe when you have much; if you cannot give to the poor when you have little, you wouldn’t give to the poor when you have much.
You also need to remember that you have to be faithful till the master comes to say: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant”. Matt.25:21 “His master praised him for good work. ‘You have been faithful in handling this small amount,’ he told him, ‘so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Begin the joyous tasks I have assigned to you.’If God hasn’t said well done, every other “well done” is insignificant and won’t bring the promotion you desire. Men may say “well done” but only God’s well done will bring you promotion for promotion comes only from God.
So rather than make excuses for yourself, your level of growth, understanding, anointing, financial wealth, etc, look inward and change your ways. Become more available for God and be faithful too. Be faithful till God says well done. You need both availability and faithfulness to go far in this kingdom journey for God is not random in his dealings with man.
