Why do you pray? You need to answer this question honestly. As the scripture above states, you often don't receive what you prayed for because you pray with the wrong motive which is not born out of faith. If your reasons for asking for those things fall under this category, you won't receive the desired answer. Change tactics.
Primarily, prayer is communication with God. It is the medium through which you ask God for your requests and receive answers. God sees and knows your innermost thoughts. He is not deaf, neither does He take pleasure in ignoring you. So, if you're praying for something (with the right motive) and you've not received it yet, it's not because God doesn't like you, it's because your communication line may be faulty.
When you pray to God, He isn't just listening to your spoken words but also to the words in your heart (the hidden unspoken words). This means if you are saying one thing, but mean the other, God knows! Your heart speaks much louder to Him than just the words on your lips. He knows when you're lying or trying to cover things something up. Since this is God's character and a quality He has, it means prayer to God can only yield thy answers you desire when your communication aligns with God's standards. God would only respond to your heart, and not mere words. Therefore, how do you reach the level whereby your prayers are with the right motive?
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God [which represents all that Jesus Christ is and does], so that you will know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that you [already] have eternal life.
14 This is the [remarkable degree of] confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us.
15 And if we know [for a fact, as indeed we do] that He hears and listens to us in whatever we ask, we [also] know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted to us] the requests which we have asked from Him. - 1 John 5:13-15(AMP)
You need to understand who you are and what you carry. As a believer, you have received eternal life. Once you have this settled within you, it helps you when you pray. Your prayers would then be shaped with this understanding of what you carry such that your requests and how you position yourself to receive would be different and with a purpose. It also means you'll start asking with the understanding and believe that you have been heard and that you'll receive that which you have asked for. The ability to believe all these stems from your faith in God. It is this faith that gears you up to receive. So, what is faith to receive?
22 Jesus replied, “Have faith in God [constantly].
23 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power], but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will].
24 For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you. - Mark 11:22-24(AMP)
Faith to receive is simply believing in the power of God; believing that God is big enough to give you what you desire. It is believing that once you pray, you have received the answer! If it's positioning yourself to unwrap and unravel the answers to your prayers. It is obeying whatever you're told to do in anticipation of that answer! You can also activate and "grow" your faith by hearing, reading, studying and meditating on God's Word.
So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ. - Romans 10:17(AMP)
Don't get tired. Position yourself rightly to receive. Open yourself up to unravel those answers. You are to receive an answer to your prayers. Just draw in those answers through faith. Take time to read and study the patriarchs and matriachs of faith in Hebrews 11. You would get those answers soonest in Jesus name, amen!
Have a blessed week!
